Michael Maxwell

Dr. Maxwell has worked for over 20 years in education and social services. In 2017, he became Manager for the City of Las Vegas in the Youth Development and Social Innovation department. YDSI provides educational support programs in over 100 Clark County School District elementary, middle and high Schools. YDSI has also opened two Strong Start Early Learning Academies for infants through five year olds. The YDSI department is responsible for supporting “cradle to career” holistic development for the youngest residents in the City of Las Vegas.
Prior to the City of Las Vegas, Dr. Maxwell was Senior Vice President for Agency Innovation with a non-profit agency, the Las Vegas Urban League. He simultaneously served as the Executive Director of the agency’s Early Childhood Connection. In the ED role he oversaw the operations of the State funded Child Care and Development Program which serves thousands of children, families and child care providers across southern Nevada.
Dr. Maxwell served 5 years as an educator and Assistant Principal at Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy. He also served for 11 years as an educator with the Clark County School District. He left school based education in 2010 for his work with the Las Vegas Urban League.
Dr. Maxwell is the President for the Nevada Association for the Education of Young Children. He is also on the Southern Nevada Early Childhood Advisory Council. He earned his Ed.D. and Master’s degrees in Educational Leadership along with his Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He coaches youth sports, lacrosse and basketball, and mentors. He and his wife, Kim, have three children and have been married for 20 years.
